RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PREGNANT
Pregnant women. Recommendations for healthy adults apply to pregnant women. Pregnant women may even be subjected to greater risk of developing serious complications than adults in general. In one recent study 43 x pregnant women with wind smallpox reported pneumonia in 9 and one death. The main problem is the risk to the fetus when the woman developed the infection during the first half of pregnancy. The risk of defects after infection during the first trimester is set in four studies and was 2.3% (3 out of 131).
It is anticipated that VZIG may alter maternal infection in such a way that it becomes asymptomatic. In a possible similar situation, but some women passively immunized against rubella and have no clinical signs of infection, have children with krasnushnoy embriopatiey. Will the fetus is protected from development deformations caused by VZV if VZIG introduced a pregnant woman, were unknown. The protection of the fetus would be doubtful if sensitive woman, the former in contact receives VZIG, but it is not showing signs of wind smallpox. Unlikely that antibodies imposed a pregnant woman during the 5 days before the birth, will be absorbed and transported through the placenta in quantities sufficient to have an impact on the child, so the use of VZIG newborn children (if shown) is preferred.
